Many have heard our story of the wily tapir and know the outcome of our encounter with Vanessa in Manu in the primary rain forest of the amazon. If not please ask us on Salt Cay and we will gladly share the story.
Now we have a new experience to go with our "search for the wily tapir". The search for Cambodian flying foxes (very large bats).
Meet Nicky who carried us in his Tuk Tuk to where the flying foxes can be found outside of Battambang. They are gorgeous creatures in their own way, but their population in Cambodia was decimated when the Khmer Rouge were in power.
Many have ended up in rice porridge as the blood is a delicacy when mixed with this staple in Asia.
